Government & Taxes

The Rowan County Government serves all citizens living in Rowan County and all it’s municipalities.

Rowan County has a five-member county commission. Members of the commission are elected with staggered terms in partisan elections. The Chairman is selected from the five commissioners. It is the job of the commission to select the County Manager.

According to the 2000 census report, the Rowan County Government serves a total of 130,340 people.

The City of Salisbury, the largest municipality in the county, has a Council/Manager form of government. A five- member council is elected every two years in a non-partisan election. The Mayor is selected from the five council members. It is the job of the council to select the City Manager.

According to the 2000 census report, the City of Salisbury’s Government serves a total of 26,462 people.
