Transportation

Rowan County has a vast array of options to suite your every transportation need. We will provide you with access to three major international airports, 13 regional airports, and two modern, deep-water ports. You will also have same-day highway access to all Eastern U.S. markets. And if that was not enough, Rowan County is the center of a 3,600 mile East Coast rail network.

Airports:
Flying is made easy in Rowan County. We have quick and easy access to three major international airports. Charlotte/Douglas International Airport is approximately 45 miles away, the Triad International Airport in Greensboro is approximately 55 miles away, and the Raleigh Durham International Airport is roughly 116 miles away. There are even 13 regional airports in and around Rowan County.

Deep Water Ports:
Experience a different kind of service with two modern, deep water ports located near Rowan County. The Deep Water Port located in Morehead City will provide you with active marketing assistance by field sales personnel and customized market studies. This port will provide you with reduced inland transportation costs through inland terminals at Charlotte and Greensboro, and flexible contracts to meet every customers needs and requirements. You will also be able to benefit from lower cost per ship move.

The Port of Charleston is committed to being the most productive port in North America. Through dedication and service this port will move your cargo through their port facilities as quickly and efficiently as possible. They strive to provide industry-leading productivity that produces bottom-line benefits for their customers.

Rail Service:
Because rail access is vital to many prospective industries, the NCDOT began the rail industrial access program to help ensure that companies have the railroad tracks needed to transport freight and materials. The program uses state funds to construct or refurbish tracks required by a new or expanded industry to encourage economic development. Funding for the projects is contingent upon private and local sources providing matching funds. In addition, If you are looking for an alternative means of transportation, Amtrack also makes scheduled stops in Rowan County.

Highway:
By traveling on interstates I-40, I-77, and I-85, you will also have same-day highway access to all Eastern U.S. markets.I-40 is an important interstate in North Carolina, entering from Tennessee in Haywood County stretching 420 miles to just north of Wilmington. Providing six to eight lanes in most of the congested areas, I-40's flow of traffic is able to move much faster. The well-traveled I-40 is a key link to other major interstates like I-85.

I-77 is also a well-traveled interstate, entering through Mecklenburg County from South Carolina and continuing into Virginia at the foot of Fancy Gap Mountain. Along that stretch I-77 connects with many popular interchanges and interstates such as I-85.

I-85 is a popular interstate in North Carolina, enabling you to travel south all the way to Montgomery, Alabama or north to Petersburg, Virginia. I-85 also provides travelers with six to eight lanes of travel and connects you to the other two very popular interstates in North Carolina.
